An Introduction

District 2

I am Vernon Cash, your new director for District 2, after having served for several years as your assistant director. I am a Lieutenant with Shelbina Fire Protection District and a Captain with Shelby Community Fire Association in Shelbyville, MO. Many thanks to George Wright for his many years of service as our previous director, and we wish him well on his retirement. While I have met many of the departments during my travels in Northeast Missouri, I look forward to meeting the rest of you over the coming year.

There are many opportunities across the state for training, including the newly revised Basic Firefighter Course – now called Introduction to the Fire Service and training dollars are out there if you are interested in hosting a class. Contact your regional training coordinator to set it up. A good training program not only improves our skills, it also keeps firefighters engaged, motivated, and excited to be a part of the fire service.

By the time you read this article, we will have passed the deadline for fire department registrations, which is not only a legal requirement, it is necessary to qualify for many grants. So let this be yet another reminder to get your registration in. If there is anything I can do for your department, or if you just want to say hello, give me a call. Stay safe out there!
