Contest Committee
The contest committee would like to report that on Saturday, May 3rd we will be holding our annual Firefighter Challenge. It will kick off at 8:00 am on the grounds of the Chateau on the Lake. The contest consists of three divisions; firefighter, female and junior firefighters. The firefighter division is for any active firefighter age 18 and up. They can be male or female firefighters. The female division is for any female firefighter or auxiliary member. The junior division is for junior firefighters 18 and under.
The firefighter and female divisions compete in five events. Two-man hose coupling, three-man extend a line, four-man replace a section, three-man water barrel fight, and five-man bucket brigade. Junior firefighters compete in three events, two-person hose coupling, three-man extend a line, and three-person water barrel fight.
Departments that do not have enough people to compete may borrow members from other departments. This allows the opportunity for more participants. Each department can have up to two teams in each event. All competitors must be members of the FFAM or FFAM auxiliary.
The registration deadline for the contest is 7:00 pm on the Wednesday before the convention begins. Along with the registration forms each competitor must sign the release of responsibility form. Exceptions can be made as long as the contest committee is notified prior to the start of the contest. All brackets and running orders are made up prior to Saturday. These are done by a blind draw. If you are interested in starting a team you can find the rules and layouts on the FFAM’s website. You can go to www.ffam.org, committees then contest.
If you still have questions, do not hesitate to contact me or any contest committee person. The contest committee consists of five people and we are located around the state. The committee members are Rob Erdel, Terry Wynne, Alan Braun, Dylan Honea and Jessica Weiz. I would be more than happy to help you get started. You can reach me at roberdel@ktis.net or call me at 573-473-0972 and I will assist in any way I can.
Round up a team and come to the convention, it will be a great time and you will make lots of friends. As always, thank you, and thanks for what you do for your communities.
