The Cole County Commission awarded a $500,000 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant to the Cole County Fire Protection District to help purchase 80 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), 160-45 minute air cylinders, and 101 face masks. These 3M Scott C5 snap change SCBA units will replace units that date back to 1995 that weighed more than 40 pounds and only had twenty minutes of air. They were outdated and parts were not available. The new units weigh about twenty pounds and provide up to forty-five minutes of air.
