Wow, where did the summer go? I hope everyone had a great summer vacation. The Missouri State Fair is over and some of you parents are happy the kids are back in school.
Speaking about the state fair, the Missouri State Fair Volunteer Fire Department has gone out of service after another successful year. The department ran 168 calls for the year which is an average of 17 calls a day and congrats to Chief Kegan Wilson on the successful year.
While I was at the fair, I got to witness Governor Mike Parson along with Lt Governor Kehoe sign HB2018 which provides additional funding to build a new fire station on the fairgrounds. Thank you, Governor Parson and Lt. Governor Kehoe, for your continued support towards public safety, we appreciate it.
The FFAM has been busy promoting the organization at several conferences. We attended the Missouri Fire District conference at the Lake of the Ozarks, Independence Fire Fest and of course the Missouri State Fair. We also have several events still coming up including the FFAM Annual Memorial Service in October, the Annual Funeral Team Conference, MU FRTI’s Missouri Emergency Services Instructor Conference, Revolutionary Fire Tactics at the Lake and the Jefferson County Engine Rally.
This time of year, the committees of the FFAM are also meeting to discuss next year’s budget items. These committees are served by volunteers who are looking out for what’s best for the organization and they feel needs to be the priority of the organization. The items can only be approved with membership numbers and the constant money coming in from those memberships. The more memberships the more money coming in. It’s that’s simple. If you know a department in your area that is not a member, encourage them to be members, or if there is a benefit you think the FFAM needs to pursue, please let us know, we are open to new ideas.
If I or any of our directors can be of any assistance or if you would like us to attend your events like Christmas parties or open houses please let us know. I can be reached by email at grant_oetting@yahoo.com or call my cell phone at 660-229-4525, if I don’t answer feel free to leave me a voice mail or you can text me. Until next time, be safe my brothers and sisters.
