Annual Open House at Firehouse 1

On April 23, 2022, Sedgewickville Fire Protection District (SFPD) held its annual Open House at Firehouse 1. This was their fourth open house event. The event offers food and drinks along with activities for kids and adults.

This year in attendance was Around the Clock Medical Alarms, Jackson Fire/Region E HSRT with a rescue truck, boat and Hazmat apparatus, American Red Cross Disaster Program Manager, AirMedCare Network Membership Sales (aka Air Evac to some), Missouri State Highway Patrol with a patrol car and roll-over simulator, Air Evac 80 Flight Crew and helicopter. SFPD would like to thank these attendees for helping supply resources and education to our community.

SFPD had items available for the children including a firefighter children’s helmet (a party supply/costume), colors, ArtCreativity firefighter coloring books, mini LED handheld flashlights with lanyards, and stickers. Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety sent education materials and handouts for both children and adults. Thank you for the resources.

The open house was a success in reaching approximately 50 community members. SFPD has plans to continue its annual event with continued growth in education and activities. More pictures and reelz from the day of the event can be found on their Facebook page.

The kids enjoyed getting to “play with the water” as Chief Nelson Palmer and Engineer Chris Seigel helped them pull a line and operate. The object of the operation was to direct the water at a traffic cone and see if it could be steady enough to knock the cone over.
