Training and Responding Together

Training

Palmyra Fire Protection District, Hannibal Fire Department, and the Tri-Township Fire Protection District, in conjunction with the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute (MU FRTI), participated in an eight-hour Basic Grain Engulfment Rescue class. A huge thank you to Nutrien Ag Solutions for sponsoring this class and Doyle Equipment Manufacturing / Riverview Manufacturing for their classroom and facility. This class featured four hours of classroom instruction and lecture, followed by four hours of hands-on technical simulations with live grain bin props. This training provided great interdepartmental training between agencies and increased our effectiveness when responding to these types of emergencies.

Responding

On February 9 at 06:43, the Palmyra Fire Protection District was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at Dunkle’s Cabinetry. First arriving units found the structure fully involved with flames coming through the roof. A defensive attack was coordinated with the help of the Hannibal Fire Department, LaGrange Fire, and the City of Monroe Fire Department. We appreciate the awesome help and manpower. Fireground operations were greatly hindered due to high snowdrifts, frozen hydrants, and sub-zero wind-chill factors.
