Congratulations Pilot Grove Rural Fire Protection District

FFAM_2016-May-Jun-small3Congratulations to the Pilot Grove Rural Fire Protection District who recently took delivery of a 1991 Peterbilt, 3000 gallon tanker/pumper. With only 15,000 miles, the new unit has a Caterpillar 3406 diesel engine, 9-speed transmission, 1250-gpm Hale pump, 3000-gallon stainless steel tank, 3000-gallon portable pond, 2-8” side air operated dump valves, 1-10” rear dump valve with two 12 volt Knight fighter quartz lights.

According to Fire Chief Gordon Shay, the Pilot Grove Rural Fire Protection District operates from one centrally located fire station with fifteen firefighters. The new unit will replace a 1974 1,500 gallon tanker that’s exceeded it’s useful life span. “I can’t say enough about our community and firefighters, these dedicated and brave men volunteer their time to help others. I’m so proud to be their Chief.”

Through the strong support of their citizens, in 2014, voters overwhelmingly supported the formation of a taxing district. With the creation of a tax supported fire district, the department can now focus on providing improved service to their citizens.

Great Lakes Pre-Owned Fire Apparatus Inc. sold and delivered the pumper/tanker. More information about the company can be obtained at www.greatlakesfireapparatus.com
