Phil Sayer Lifetime Achievement Award
This award is given annually to the one volunteer fire department who best exemplifies leadership in the community; the department that is involved in all the right activities for all the right reasons; to protect and serve the public. The committee will evaluate each entry and make their decision based upon, but not limited to : 1. Fire suppression efforts 2. Fire prevention program 3. Inspections 4. Public relations Monetary factors will not have an impact on the decision in selecting a fire department to receive this award. This award will not be awarded if suitable nominees are not submitted. REQUIREMENTS Department must be a current member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri for the year nominated and the preceding calendar year. DEADLINE Complete nominations and substantiating paperwork must be received by February 28th. ENTRY FORMS If typed or written, the nominations must include the completed official form supplied by the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri. All handwriting must be legible. (Copies are acceptable) Internet entries are acceptable, providing all substantiating document are received by the committee prior to the deadline NOTE One award will be presented at the annual convention, providing the nominations meet the criteria established. This award is given annually to the one individual who best exemplifies the characteristics of a chief and who has an outstanding record of fire service achievements. These characteristics encompass all aspects of loyalty, productivity, dedicated and professional service. The candidate should be the epitome chief. We are looking for the candidate that is a true community leader; the person who is involved in all the right activities for all the right reasons. This is not an award for heroism. It is meant to honor an individual who has given selfishly of him or her self to the local community, the local fire service and the fire service as a whole. The nominee must be of the following criteria : DEDICATION – The individual has demonstrated the highest degree of dedication and participation to activities within his/her fire department including training, fire response, public education and other fire department operations. LOYALTY – The individual has demonstrated an allegiance to his/her fire department and to its firefighters and officers. Is a team player that supports others’ efforts to achieve the goals of the fire service, supports his/her fire department’s policies, engaging only in constructive criticism that will lead to improvements in the department. PRODUCTIVITY – Has gone well beyond the duties of his/her fire department position to make clearly visible improvements that have enhanced the department’s ability to reduce fire losses and to better serve its community. PROFESSIONALISM – Performs his/her fire service duties in a manner that exemplifies the competency that all firefighters should strive to achieve and which reflects the highest standards of the fire service. Regularly demonstrates the ability to lead and to follow, depending upon the circumstances. COMMITMENT – Has made the commitment to his/her department to better the working relationship with the surrounding county departments and departments within boarding counties. Maintains a strong working relationship with his/her own firefighters and has the ability to function under undo or unusual circumstances. This award will not be awarded if suitable nominees are not submitted. REQUIREMENTS Individual must be a current member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri for the year nominated and the preceding calendar year, In addition, the individual must be a ranking member of the department in the capacity of Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief or Chief. LIFE SAVING AWARD - ROUTINE This award will be presented to an individual(s)/department(s) that completed a life saving operation with the equipment used in the normal day to day activities of fire fighting. This award will not be awarded if suitable nominees are not submitted. REQUIREMENTSDepartment/individual must be a current member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri and the preceding calendar year. Nominations must be for the calendar year preceding the nomination. DEADLINE Complete nominations and substantiating paperwork must be received by February 28th. Nominees for the award should be recognized because they reflect vigilance and professionalism of fire fighters across the State of Missouri. This award and certificates of recognition/accomplishment will be presented to individual(s)/department(s) who completed a life saving operation with the use of technical/mechanical equipment not used in the normal day to day activities of fire fighting. This award will not be awarded if suitable nominees are not submitted. REQUIREMENTS Department/individual must be a current member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri and the preceding calendar year. Nominations must be for the calendar year preceding the nomination. DEADLINE Complete nominations and substantiating paperwork must be received by February 28th. MERITORIOUS ACTION This award is intended to recognize firefighter(s)/department(s) whose performance in the line of duty was conducted solely in an attempt to save a life; regardless of the actions success. Nominees for this award should be recognized because they reflect vigilance and professionalism of fire fighters from across the State of Missouri. Nominations for this award must be submitted by an Association member with the recommendation of the fire fighter’s Chief, or his/her designee, and provided the Awards Committee finds no hard evidence that the individual(s)/department(s) was in violation of generally accepted safety standards. Such standards include, but are not limited to : 1. Abstinence from the influence of alcohol or drugs 2. The use of applicable protective equipment such as protective clothing and breathing apparatus 3. Adherence to accepted operating procedures, where these criteria are applicable at the time of the incident Unsafe acts associated with the incident that were not within the control of the nominee should not prevent the individual(s)/department(s) from receiving the award. This award will not be awarded if suitable nominees are not submitted.
